A tractor run has raised over £1,500 in aid of the Cornwall Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The run proved to be a success, beating the amount raised for the charity by £500 compared to the £1,000 raised in 2019.

Tractors of all ages could be seen arriving at the Helston Community College bus park, ready to leave in convoy.

A representative for the charity, Christine Bungay, was present at the start to give a small talk on the importance of fundraising for MNDA.

Some 59 tractors gathered and were watched by a huge crowd that saw the parade off with fans lining both sides of the road.

They then travelled a route passing through Lowertown, Trevarno, Carleen, Godolphin, Ashton and then onto Porthleven for a parade around the harbour.

The tractors were encouraged on throughout their journey with onlookers gathering in their gardens to cheer them on.

Once the travelling party had reached Porthleven hundreds lined the harbour to cheer and wave.

They finished with a pasty supper at the Fairground Car Park in Helston.

Organiser Bobby Eustis said after considering the matter carefully he had decide to give the event a go again this year, after it was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.

He thanked everyone involved in this year's event, which he described as a tremendous success.

In particular he thanked sponsors Cornish Oven Helston, Helston Community College, Amberon Traffic Management and Cornwall Industrial Supplies.

He went on to add: "Also a huge thank you from myself to all of my helpers and all of the tractor drivers, because without them the event would just not happen."

The MNDA charity focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by motor neurone disease in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
