An outbreak of bird flu has been confirmed in South Somerset.
Defra reported on April 7 that a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was found in poultry at a site near Ilminster.
All birds on the site are to be culled and a 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone have been put in place around the premises.
This comes as two sites in Devon are under restrictive zones following outbreaks of the same strain of bird flu.
A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone have replaced the 3 and 10 Temporary Control Zones are in place around a site near Tedburn St Mary and also around a site near Newton St Cyres, seven miles away.

These zones are intended to prevent the spread of the disease by introducing strict measures for poultry owners in the marked areas that include keeping records of visitors, poultry and any movement of poultry and eggs, along with employing tight biosecurity and the isolation or housing of birds.

The case near Ilminster brings the number of confirmed cases of the highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 in England to 94.
